Pilots or Sailors?

As the first Open Class ships to weigh and grid, SS and DB were well onto other morning activities when the announcement came at 9:30: the day is cancelled. The organizers did not expect any soaring to be possible past 1:30 this day. A frustration for those who came to race and were willing to do so.

Most of the U.S. team, along with Brits, some Dutch, and a Dane found their way to Lake Slawa, where sailboats were available to rent. With very little wind, sailing rather clunky vessels, pilots managed nonetheless to get some racing in. Reports are that Dave Mockler 2XX, got hit with a penalty for coming into the dock too fast.
