Yesterday's tasks proved arduous, and long, especially for 18-Meter pilot Gary Ittner, AL, and his crew, Paul Weeden, who did not manage to connect with each other until midnight. David Mockler's (2XX) trailer was spotted on Road 12, heading back toward the airport, at 8 p.m., Dave having made it almost to the airport before he was forced to land. Open Class pilots SS and DB, among the first to start, reported that the day presented the kind of challenges they expect in a World Championship.
By the time of pilot meeting today, some CUs were popping up to the north. Fields throughout the contest area continue to be soggy, but organizers did not expect storms today.
From the field, it looked as if storms threatened from several directions, but the day was fast and furious. Landings were one one right after the other, filling the landing field with gliders. Top speed of 137.9 came from Peter Eriksen (PE, Denmark) in the 18-meter class. Top Open Class speed was 1kph slower.
